MISSION STATEMENT Julestarz Academy for the Performing Arts is dedicated to educating both children and adults in the fields of dance, music, and theatre. We will provide a warm and friendly environment where students can explore their creative potential. Students will learn self-confidence, self-respect, discipline, self-expression, imagination, and an instilled appreciation for the performing arts. MEET THE FACULTY & STAFF  OWNER/ARTISTIC DIRECTOR MISS JULIE KENNY holds a Masters Degree in Arts and Humanities in Dance and Theatre from The State University of New York at Buffalo and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Westminster College. Julie has been a faculty member of the Theatre Studies Program at Niagara University where she taught dance classes for three years. She also taught theatre, acting, and public speaking classes at Daemen College. She is a tenured music teacher for the Buffalo Public School District and the Baltimore County Public School District, where she taught music to grades K through 8. Julie was an NFL cheerleader for the Buffalo Bills for three years, and served as captain for one season. Her dance and music teaching credits include teaching at Dance Dynamics, Country Park Child Care and the Community Music School, all in Buffalo, N.Y. She has worked as a choreographer for many professional theatre and dance companies throughout the northeast region. Some of her choreography credits include: “Will Rogers Follies,” “Godspell,” “The Music Man,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the Miss Erie County Junior Miss Pageants, and a CO Jones music video produced by the Goo Goo Dolls. Julie also enjoys performing. Some of her favorite roles include: Maria in “The Sound of Music,” Sister Leo in “Nunsense,” Barbara in “Run for your Wife,” and Mazeppa in “Gypsy.” Her singing credits include performing at Westminster Abbey in England, the Notre Dame Cathedral in France and singing the National Anthem for an NFL football game. Julie served as producer and executive director for the first dinner theatre in Buffalo, N.Y., in over twenty years. Julie is a member of the National Dance Educators Organization.
INSTRUCTORS MS. JULIE WALEK (Instructor) attended the State University of New York at Buffalo studying beginner, intermediate and advanced classes in Tap, Jazz, Modern, Mind and Body Integrations as well as dance teaching methods. She has taught dance in Buffalo, N.Y. for five years and was an assistant dance teacher for 10 years. Julie has studied under many well-known names including: the Manhattan Dance Project with Bill Hastings, Chet Walker, Abron Glover and David Howard; the New York City Dance Alliance Conventions with Joe Lanteri, Ac Ciulla, Lisa Danias, Alan Onickel, and Suzie Taylor; the Tremaine Dance Conventions with Joe Termaine; and the Dance Masters of America with Frank Hachett. While at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Julie was a cheerleader for four years; she won many awards including: Best Newcomer (1994), Coaches Choice Award (1995), and the National Cheerleading Association All American (1996). Her college team won the National Cheerleading Association championship in 1994. Julie also coached a high school varsity cheerleading team for two years where her team was champions of their division both years. She was a member of the National Cheerleading Association for instructors and she traveled all over the northeast to teach high school students dance and cheerleading. This is Julie’s fourth season teaching at Julestarz.
MISS CHELSEY (Instructor) is studying dance and international studies/relations at the University of South Florida. She has been dancing since the age of 3 and has been trained in several different disciplines including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, Irish, modern, pointe and character. She has performed in more than 25 shows and has choreographed 15 shows. She has been teaching/assisting dance classes for more than 5 years. This is Miss Chelsey's third season at Julestarz. MISS ASHLEY (Instructor) is a student at the University of South Florida with a major in Dance Studies and a minor in Music Performance. She has trained classically for 16 years. Miss Ashley was a teacher and resident technical advisor at Mindy’s Jessamine School of Classical Dance in Kentucky for 6 years. This is Miss Ashley's third season at Julestarz. MISS NIA (Instructor) is a student at Hillsborough Community College majoring in Physical Therapy. She will be transferring to the University of South Florida in Spring 2008. Miss Nia has trained in gymnastics for 13 years, reaching Level 10 gymnastics. She attended the AAU Junior Olympics in 2005. She also coaches Levels 5-9 competitive gymnastics. This is Miss Nia's third season at Julestarz.
MISS COURTNEY (Instructor) is a student at the University of South Florida majoring in Dance Studies with a focus on Education. She moved to Florida from Pittsburg in 2003. She has been dancing since she was 5 years old and has been in love with the stage every since. This is her second season at Julestarz. OFFICE STAFF
Kristi Lovelace is the office manager. She has a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Southern Illinois University. This is her fourth season at Julestarz.
